A mentor challenged me to expand my resume by a half-page every year! I said, “HOW?!?!” Then I considered all the opportunities available…here are a few ideas:
- Take a class in your field (online or in-person)
- Volunteer
- Join a community organization
- Take a safety training (CPR, Fire-fighting, First-Aid)
- Learn a new program
- Attend a conference in your field
- Take on additional roles/responsibilities at work
A simple reflection of the year might jog your memory about that big project you lead successfully! Don’t forget to capture it on your resume! Then, copy + paste to LinkedIn to share with your network. Moreover, this challenge can help influence your yearly goals!
This year I transitioned to a new position within my company, Illumina. I’m happy I had been actively updating my resume prior to the job search! I recently updated my resume/LinkedIn with experiences from my new role. Updated LinkedIn link. Many of the bullet points were derived from the original job posting! Ha! #WorkSmarterNotHarder
