Music AUG-2020

Music is king for mood-setting, vibe-providing, and memory-associating! Here are 4 projects I recommend checking out (in no particular order!):

1. Cassian – Laps

Hands-down the greatest electronic/house album I’ve heard in 2020! Who is Cassian? I’ll let his work speak for himself:

He started working in the studio with an at-the-time emerging Australian trio, RÜFÜS DU SOL, and proceeded to mix their critically-acclaimed albums,BloomandSolace, earning him multiple ARIA awards and a Grammy nomination. Playing an integral role in projects from Hayden James, What So Not, Crooked Colours, Set Mo, Graace, Running Touch, and many more celebrated names, Cassian’s prolific work behind the scenes has landed him multiple gold & platinum certifications.1

You do not want to miss this one!

2. The Killers – Dying Breed (Single off of Imploding the Mirage)

The Killers released their 6th album: Imploding the Mirage. LINK. Knew this would be a great album judging from their last single they released, Dying Breed. I love it! On my very first listen, I heard 3 main influences from other songs I love, figured I had to share!

1st Bleachers – All My Heroes

  • Pulsing percussive intro
  • Vocal versus with 3-4 repeating note melody
  • Sonic buildup to a synth crash ending

2nd Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run

  • Rhythm of lyrics landing on the first beat of the following measure “baby we’re a dying breed” vs “baby we were born to run
  • Bell tones in the call and response of the chorus

3rd When in Rome – The Promise

  • Background sounds floating around: Vocals, synths, piano counter melody
  • Sense of excitement and relief upon landing on the chorus

Here’s a quick playlist of the songs mentioned starting with Dying Breed.

3. Luke McGovern – Yer Goin’ Nowhere

Luke is back with his second album! Support my pal and give his album the attention it deserves! Bandcamp site: https://lukemcgovern1.bandcamp.com/

4. My 2020_Singles playlist

Since 2017 I’ve curated a playlist of songs I discovered/found that demand a re-listen to. This has been my go-to for “hey, someone play music”. As a playlist it’s admittedly quite eclectic, bouncing from fresh-funky-electronic-upbeat tunes to moody-soulful-lyricial-chill beats. Skipping is encouraged! Maybe you’ll find something new! I update it as the year goes on, enjoy and check back!
