Better Way

At the end of 2018 I jogged along “Better Way” and was reminded of this commencement speech I listened to around the same time I graduated:

The speaker is Jeff Huber, I find his story fascinating. The way he incorporates his life-experiences to life-lessons is admirable. I love his perspective. So much so, that I’ve incorporated his message into my daily mantra. I often tell myself or challenge others that “there has got to be a better way.” I love this statement. I hope you enjoy his story as much as I do.

Whether you watch his commencement speech or not, I’ve highlighted 6 “nuggets” that have stuck with me.

  1. “Be grateful of those who bring love into your life.”
  2. “Things don’t ‘happen for a reason.’ But you can find purpose and meaning in things that do happen.”
  3. “Things don’t ‘happen for a reason.’ But how you respond can reveal your true character.”
  4. “Things don’t ‘happen for a reason.’ But they do often happen because nobody has yet found a better way.”
  5. “Even when you’re at your darkest hour, and you’ve lost a part of yourself… There is still hope. There is always hope. You can find purpose and meaning from those experiences. There is a better way.”
  6. “You have the passion. You have the tools. You have the skills. Use them. For your own fulfillment, and for the betterment of our world. Use them. And find a better way.”

I’ve summarized Jeff’s speech with a simple graphic of the moments that he encountered a better way.
